ABOUT

Born in London, England and now based in Gothenburg, Sweden, James Silverman (1977) has spent the past two decades traversing the globe capturing the essence of contemporary design and architecture through his lens.

He has been known to hover 18 meters in midair, scale all manner of rooftops, build scaffolding towers and fly drones to gain viewpoints that reveal the architect’s vision. On commercial shoots, James has arranged furniture sponsorship and other props—the most eccentric involved procurement of live camels and horses in Marrakesh, Morocco.

Its been an honour to have been associated with the Architectural Digest brand over the years. Here’s a few selected magazine covers with my photography.

His book, "Infinite Space" (Gestalten, 2016), is a testament to his more than 20-year career which showcases his ability to narrate the soul of structures through his lens.

Whether of a remote mountain cabin in Norway, a sensuous desert oasis in Morocco, or a monolithic concrete home in Switzerland, Silverman’s photographs capture the seemingly uninterrupted flow between interiors and exteriors. The featured architecture is defined by elements that absorb, reflect, or deliberately break with their surroundings.

There’s nothing that compares to being published in print. I still get goose bumps when the magazines arrive in the post to see my images and touch the pages, there is nothing that makes me more proud.
